Female Detention Officer Recovers From Assault In Winslow Prison

July 26, 2013

A state corrections officer is continuing her recovery after being beaten by two inmates at the state prison complex in Winslow, a week ago. Department of Corrections spokesman Bill Lamoreaux says the incident took place in the Kaibab unit of the prison.

“She was taken to the hospital as a result of the injuries received in that assault,” Bill Lamoreaux said. “She received a broken nose, broken cheekbone and some other injuries.”

Lamoreaux says being an officer at a prison unit is a difficult job and that it's hard to say when the beaten officer will return to her job. The two inmates have been transferred to a maximum security facility as they await new charges.
