Glendale may raise the price to use Dial-a-Ride for the first time in decades, but officials will first host public meetings to get feedback.

The city’s Dial-a-Ride fees have not changed since the early 1990s. The new proposal would increase the general-public fare from $2 to $5. It would also raise the price for people over 65 years old and the disabled, from $1 to $2.

Glendale subsidizes Dial-a-Ride costs with sales-tax money, and about 75,000 people used the service last year, said Kevin Link, city transit administrator. 

“We’ve held fares constant for so long, and we want to try to be consistent with our regional partners,” Link said. “We have the lowest fares in the region.”

Starting in April, Glendale officials will host a series of public meetings on the proposal. Residents will also be able to provide feedback online. A City Council vote will likely happen this summer.
