Arizona Game and Fish Fights Tortoise Overpopulation By Adopting Them Out

July 31, 2013

Backyard desert tortoise breeding has lead to overpopulation in captivity. So much so that, Cristina Jones, the turtle program coordinator for the Arizona Game and Fish Department, said  there are not enough homes for all of them. Now, the agency is looking for people to adopt these tortoises. The tortoises are native to the region, can grow up to 15 pounds and can live to be 100 years old.
