Officials in Chandler hope a new boot camp will help boost the city’s workforce. Starting Monday, University of Arizona will launch a certificate program for basic web-development skills at its Chandler location.

Economic Development Director Micah Miranda says the program will fill a critical need in Chandler’s software industry cluster.

“We’re seeing tremendous amount of growth,” he said. “And what we’re hearing from our industry partners is they need more talent and more employees.”

The UA Coding Boot Camp is designed to accommodate working students. The six-month program costs $9,500. Miranda says the annual median wage for web developers is $63,000.

“For every one software job, they can support two to three other jobs in our local economy,” he said. “So it directly impacts the quality of life our residents and visitors can experience.”

Several software companies have operations in Chandler including PayPal, Infusionsoft and Pearson Education.
