Spring training is over until next year, but Glendale may earmark an extra $1 million in its upcoming budget to buy a new scoreboard for Camelback Ranch.

Glendale's contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox requires the city to upgrade technology to keep pace with improvements at other Cactus League facilities. Scottsdale Stadium got a new scoreboard last year, and the Peoria Sports Complex unveiled a new one this year.

Camelback Ranch’s current scoreboard has to be rebooted several times each game, according to Kevin Phelps, Glendale city manager.

“We believe the scoreboard has reached the end of its useful life,” Phelps said. “The manufacturer of the scoreboard no longer is providing the firmware and hardware to support the usage of the scoreboard.”

Glendale already spends about $800,000 a year on capital improvements at Camelback Ranch, which the Dodgers and White Sox each pay $1 a year to use for spring training.
