Jail Time For Man Convicted In Terrorism Hoax
An Arizona man will spend two weeks behind bars, for his role in a terrorism hoax.
A jury had convicted Michael David Turley in June of endangerment and knowingly giving a false impression – this after he sent his 16-year old nephew into a busy Northwest Phoenix intersection with a fake grenade launcher in July, 2012.
Turley had faced penalties ranging from probation to more than five years in prison after his conviction.
No one was hurt in the hoax but authorities say Turley could have gotten his nephew killed. Turley filmed his nephew pointing the fake grenade launcher at passing cars. The teen was dressed in a sheet, had a scarf wrapped around his head and made erratic movements during the video.
In addition to the jail time, Turley will also spend two years on supervised probation, and have to do 200 hours of community service.
