Tempe Launches New Storefront Improvement Program

August 19, 2013

Businesses along Apache Boulevard in Tempe could be getting a facelift. The City of Tempe recently launched a new Storefront Improvement Program.

Tempe spokeswoman Nikki Ripley said the city will match a business owner up to $100,000 through federal funds for exterior improvements like windows, lighting and paint jobs.

"The Apache Boulevard Redevelopment Area, in particular, has been a long standing focus for the City of Tempe, as a place where we want to encourage redevelopment," Ripley said.

Ripley said that while application details are still being worked out, several businesses have already called, and those outside the Apache Boulevard area can still apply for other forms of assistance like a permit fee waiver.
