Enrollment Increases At ASU's New Lake Havasu Campus
Enrollment has doubled at Arizona State University’s new satellite campus in Lake Havasu City. The college opened a year ago, but ASU plans to add some majors in hopes of attracting more undergraduates. This semester, 120 students are enrolled at ASU Havasu where classes started last week. That is up from 60 students last fall.
ASU Havasu Director David Young said the new school is gaining popularity because tuition for in and out-of-state students is about $3,000 cheaper than at ASU’s main campuses in Tempe and Phoenix.
“This is a great opportunity for students here. They get a high quality ASU education, but if they are looking for that smaller campus where they get a lot of personalized attention then they know here the faculty knows their names and know what they are up to and can help them and work with them,” said Young.
ASU’s Havasu campus offers degrees in life science, communications and psychology, but next year it will launch programs in business and political science. Young said the goal is to have more than 1,500 full time students enrolled at ASU Havasu within the next five years.
