Gov. Brewer Appoints New Adjutant General Of Arizona National Guard

August 28, 2013

Gov. Jan Brewer has selected a new leader of the Arizona National Guard.  He will replace a general who ran the agency for five years. Brewer appointed Col. Michael McGuire as the next adjutant general of the Arizona National Guard.

McGuire will also be the director of the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs. McGuire has three decades of military experience, and he has been with the Arizona National Guard for 10 years.

He is replacing Major General Hugo Salazar who leaves the position on Sept. 9. The Arizona National Guard came under scrutiny during Salazar’s leadership.  An Arizona Republic investigation and later a Department of Defense report pointed to cases of alleged sexual harassment, lax leadership and misconduct among guard leaders.
