Heat Wave In September

September 05, 2013

This afternoon temperatures are going to peak at a sizzling 110 degrees for the second day in September.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Gary Woodall says the high pressure system over Colorado is driving up temperatures.

“…so we are actually getting winds from the east in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere and that’s bringing dryer air into the area and dryer air tends to heat up more during the afternoons.” Woodall said.

The last time temperatures were this high two consecutive days in September was 13 years ago. Woodall predicts temperatures will taper off but they Valley will see an increase in thunderstorms.
