In December 2016, there were 4.4 million people employed in Los Angeles County, which leads the nation in job numbers. LA also leads with trade, transportation and utilities jobs, just like Maricopa County — the sixth largest employed county nationwide.

Employment in Maricopa County ranks among the nation’s top 10. With almost 400,000 jobs in trade, transportation and utilities, the industry accounts for about one-fifth of all employees in Maricopa.

Professional and business services and education and health services rank second and third place, which is the same for six other leading counties nationwide.

Overall, employment increased 1.2 percent nationwide in December largely driven by these three industries.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nine of the top 10 counties show year over year employment increases for December.
