Coconino County Man Recovering From Boulder Crushing

September 11, 2013

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office said a 27-year-old man is recovering after his legs were crushed by a 30-ton boulder, dislodged during recent rains along the Mount Eldon Lookout Road.  Gerry Blair is a spokesman for the Sheriff's office and said the victim was part of a group heading up the mountain to work on the radio towers there.

"They made the decision that they would try to move the boulder, and as they were doing so another boulder came down, and unfortunately the victim was not able to get out of the way of it," Blair said.

Blair said the men working with the victim were able to get him clear of the boulder before rescuers arrived by using a high lift jack, like you might see on a big truck and some cables.
