Group Kicks Off Effort To Encourage Affordable Care Act Enrollment

September 24, 2013

The sign-up period for the Affordable Care Act begins next week and the Arizona branch of Organizing for Action is kicking off an effort to encourage enrollment.

They say they’re attempting to counter what the group says is the misinformation being spread about Obamacare. Dr. Nicholas Vasquez, an emergency medicine specialist here in Phoenix, says the program’s goal of insuring everyone, is vital to lower health care costs.

“You see, 5 percent of the patients in the United States account for 50 percent of the cost,” Vasquez said. “These are patients who have multiple diseases, multiple chronic diseases and then take a turn for the worst.”

Vasquez says the more people who enter a health insurance pool, the lower the per-person insurance costs.
