The U.S. Air Force says new contracts to replace an aging intercontinental ballistic missile system are underway.  Both Boeing and Northrop Grumman will complete the work.

Separate contracts were awarded to continue work on the replacement of the aging Minuteman III ICBM system. Though the award comes amid rising tensions with North Korea, the Air Force is looking to replace and modernize its aging ICBM and atomic weapons systems.

Boeing, which has a large presence in the Valley, was awarded $349 million over the three-year contract. So far, locations in Alabama, Utah and Ohio have been identified for the work. Northrop has not yet named its work locations.
