A federal judge will hear arguments to vacate former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s criminal conviction in court Wednesday.

Arpaio was convicted of failing to stop enforcing federal immigration law after his authority was taken away and a judge ordered him to halt the practice.

President Donald Trump pardoned the former sheriff’s conviction as well as any other legal action that may result from the Melendres racial profiling case.

Since the pardon, both Arpaio’s lawyers and federal prosecutors have filed motions asking the judge to vacate the ruling.

But many outside legal groups and even congressmen have filed briefs in the case, asking the judge to keep her ruling in place.

Judge Susan Bolton will hear arguments on the case at the federal courthouse in downtown Phoenix.
