The group behind the recall of Senator Russell Pearce issued a warning of sorts to Governor Jan Brewer and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.  Citizens for a Better Arizona didn’t threaten a recall Monday, but put them on notice.  From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Paul Atkinson reports.

Chad Snow of Citizens for a Better Arizona says its not about what his group his going to do next, but what Jan Brewer and Joe Apraio are going to do.

CHAD SNOW “The voters here in Arizona—it’s been sent time and time again with J-D Hayworth, With Andrew Thomas, with Russell Pearce—that the voters here want their elected officials not to focus on divisive wedge issues like immigration.” (19)

The group’s Randy Parraz called on Governor Brewer to publically apologize for trying to remove the chair of the Independent Redistricting Commission.  He also wants Governor Brewer to call lawmakers into special session to extend unemployment benefits. 

RANDY PARRAZ “Call a special session Governor, and work your colleagues and work the new leadership and extend those new benefits to tens of thousands of Arizonans who can’t find work in this hard economy.” (08)

Governor Brewer spokesman Matt Benson says the Governor will not apologize for something that was within her right to do.  And there are no plans for a special session.

MATT BENSON  “It’s a peculiar claim considering Governor Brewer was among the biggest supporters in the state to extend those unemployment benefits last spring.  She did call a special session at that time and unfortunately there wasn’t enough support in the legislature to get that accomplished. Citizens for a Better Arizona says if five-thousand people sign up to collect signatures, the group will consider recalling the Governor.  It also plans to create a “Citizens Posse” to hold Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio accountable.  For KJZZ, I’m Paul Atkinson
