Officials for the Tonto National Forest have announced new restrictions for recreational targets shooters in an effort to reduce the amount of trash left on forest floor.

Volunteers have cleaned up 192 tons of trash from the forest’s shooting sites in the past seven years.

The permitted shooting targets are: cardboard, paper, metal, reactive targets, self-healing targets and biodegradable clay targets.

All non-biodegradable target types should be removed from the site after shooting, according to forest officials.

Littering in Arizona could result in hundreds of dollars of fines.
