Forget staycations, glamping and even couchsurfing. Turns out, more people at younger ages are spending time and money in recreational vehicles.

RVs are expected to be at their highest use ever in 2017. That’s according to data gathered by the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association, RVIA, which also expects 2018 to be a banner year.

Industry analysts said a mix of retiring baby boomers and younger buyers is new.

Jennifer Young is co-founder of Outdoorsy, a rental marketplace for RVs, like an AirBnB, but for recreational vehicles.

“There’s, I think, 35 million people that love to spend their time outside in national parks alone," Young said. "There’s millions of people who like to spend their time traveling to music festivals. There are a ton of sports in interest areas like NASCAR, for example."

The RVIA said there are 13 million RV owners in the United States.

According to Young, RVs are most popular in California, Arizona, Texas and Florida.
