A former Mesa police officer has been found not guilty of a second-degree murder charge.

In January 2016, police responded to a call that someone was pointing a gun out of a hotel window in Mesa.

Daniel Shaver and a female were ordered out of their hotel room and told to get on the ground.

As Shaver was ordered to crawl toward the officers on his hands and knees, Mesa police say Shaver made a motion toward his waistband.

Officer Philip Brailsford fired five shots killing Shaver.

On Thursday, Brailsford was found not guilty of second-degree murder in the case. He was also cleared of the charge of reckless manslaughter.

Mesa police released the body camera footage from the incident on Thursday night.
