Post-secondary educational facilities continue to object to the House version of the GOP tax bill being reconciled with the Senate version.

The House version would put private sector tuition assistance programs on the chopping block.

In a statement released by Arizona State University, spokeswoman Katie Paquet said the university, “opposes any effort that discourages private sector employers from offering tuition assistance programs to their employees or discourages employees from taking advantage of such tuition programs.”  

According to a promotional video, one of those programs pairs with a major coffeehouse chain “… and with our Starbucks college achievement plan, partners who are ready to pursue their first bachelor’s degrees can choose from over 60 online degrees with full tuition coverage.” 

Paquet said more than 1,000 graduates of the program participated by the end of 2017.
