Could The Salt River Flow Through The Phoenix Area Again?

Remember when the Salt River flowed through the Valley?

Well, of course you don’t, because it’s been over a century since dams dried up the portion of the river that runs through the Phoenix metropolitan area in order to create a canal system to deliver water across the region.

But what if the Salt River’s waters coarsed again over the empty beds of what remains?      

If Sen. John McCain and some visionaries at Arizona State University have their way, that may happen in the future.

Jessica Boehm, the Arizona Republic’s city hall reporter, wrote about the so-called Rio Salado Project in the paper this week.
