Accountability In Comments

December 07, 2011

ASU professor of journalism Tim McGuire talks to Steve Goldstein about AZCentral.com's recent decision to change their online commenting system. McGuire discusses whether keeping people from making anonymous comments is responsible, and if there is value in anonymity. On December 1st AZCentral.com announced the decision to require people who want to comment to register for a Facebook account. This raised the question of whether anonymity is important for a comments section, and whether asking readers to register through a third party is asking for too much. Blogger Trevor Timm argues for anonymity, saying it gives citizens a platform for free speech.
