It’s set to hit 99 degrees in Phoenix this week, a foreboding sign that has some worried about how well the city is prepared for rising temperatures.

As it turns out, the city of Phoenix created a trees and shade plan way back in 2010, but some say not much progress has been made since it was introduced. A group of residents are petitioning the city council to force them to take action.

These residents have formed a committee made up of certified arborists, local business owners, landscape experts and urban planners.
