UPDATE: Arizona Educators United has closed the GoFundMe, saying via Twitter on Sunday that organizers "realized that we are not ... structurally equipped to manage finances safely while honoring the wishes of donors." The money received will be refunded.

Arizona teachers are planning a statewide strike next Thursday and are looking for more community support that could come in the way of dollars.

A strike fund is typically set up by a union ahead of time to help pay the costs of walking out of work.

But, #RedForEd organizers say they aren’t calling a GoFundMe page raising money a “strike fund.”

Leaders say the campaign with a $5,000 goal was originally meant to help buy and distribute #RedForEd T-shirts and signs. But now, that money will go to support the school walkout.

More than 90 percent all the donations have come after the strike announcement Thursday.
