Walmart Offers Employee College Program For $1 A Day
A tight labor market has more employers offering more perks.
Walmart, the nation’s largest private employer, is offering employees the chance to earn a college degree for $1 a day. The nation’s largest private employer said it will subsidize the cost, beyond financial aid and the employee contribution equivalent to $1 a day.
The offer is good for workers who pursue an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business or supply chain management through online programs at University of Florida, Brandman University and Bellevue University. Walmart said the three nonprofit schools were chosen for their success in serving working adult learners.
In a press release, CEO of Walmart U.S. Greg Foran said investing in its workers is vital to the company’s success.
“We know training and learning opportunities empower associates to deliver for customers while growing and advancing their careers," said Foran.
In 2014, Starbucks launched a program providing full tuition for employees pursuing a degree in any major through Arizona State University’s online program. Since then several other companies, including Chipotle, McDonald’s and Lowe’s, have expanded their tuition benefits.
