Arizona Game and Fish Department officials continue to warn residents about threats of wildlife roaming in populated areas. 

Bears, in particular, have been located, caught, and euthanized near residences across the state over the past few weeks. The latest incident occurred earlier this week, when Game and Fish euthanized a bear who was breaking into homes in Munds Park in Coconino County. 

Game and Fish spokesman Bill Andres said rising temperatures and a prolonged drought takes a toll on wildlife, and may be the reason why animals like bears and coyotes are inclined toward populated areas.

"There are a lot of people thinking about the homeless and getting them water," Andres said. "But we've got millions of animals in the wild that need water as well."

Andres said Game and Fish runs its Water for Wildlife program, pumping water into filling stations that help relieve thirsty creatures. 

He also said residents should take precautions to prevent wildlife from intruding on properties.

"Don’t overfill your bird feeder," Andres said, "don’t put your trash out until the morning of the trash pickup, and scare them off when you see them. This will help keep them in the wild and keep them safer.”
