Candidates for political office in Arizona must submit a certain number of voter signatures to get their name on the ballot. The deadline to send in nomination petitions was May 30, and now The Arizona Republic is reporting one candidate appears to have submitted dozens of forged signatures.

Mark Syms is an independent candidate for Arizona Senate in District 28. The Republic called up some of the voters who had signed his nominating petitions, and many said they’d never heard of Syms, or that they weren’t even home when they were supposed to have signed. This is, of course, leading some to wonder about the legitimacy of the other 2,000 signatures he submitted.

The Show reached out to Dustin Gardiner, one of the reporters looking into this, for more information. He started by talking about the red flags that jumped off the petition forms, leading him to do some more digging.
