A project between a disability advocacy group and a local leadership program will provide realtors with more information about accessible homes for sale.

Ability 360 and Valley Leadership Institute partnered on a project they hope will provide better, more reliable information to people with disabilities or older adults when purchasing a home.

Darrel Christenson is with Ability 360. He says there are 31 fields in an MLS listing that pertain to accessibility, like grab bars, roll in showers, or zero-step entrances.

"So what we did was to add pictures to the narrative for each of those 31 fields," Christenson said. "So with the pictures we feel that realtors now will have more information."

He said part of the project also involved educating builders and developers.

"If you put basic accessible features into a new build, you’re going to be able to a) market yourself again to 100 percent of the population, and b) you’re going to be able to do it in a cost effective manner."

Christenson says there are about a million people in the Valley who have a permanent disability.
