Election Day didn’t go well for Democratic statewide candidates in Arizona. 

Republican Superintendent of Public Instruction nominee Diane Douglas avoided almost every media appearance and her Democratic opponent David Garcia picked up most mainstream endorsements — even from members of the GOP.

More strikingly, Garcia seemed to under perform in the Democratic bastion of Pima County, drawing nearly 20,000 fewer votes than fellow Democrats Terry Goddard or Felecia Rotellini.

We talked with Barry Dill of First Strategic, a longtime Democratic strategist. He says it would have helped if Maricopa County Democrats had picked up the slack.
