Arizona Secretary Of State Ensures Ballots Are Secure From Hacking
Arizonans will soon begin submitting early mail-in ballots for the upcoming primary election.
With concerns over Russian interference, Secretary of State Michele Reagan reassured that Arizonans' votes are secure because ballot information is never transmitted over the internet where hackers can intercept data.
"The cards are physically taken out of those machines and hand carried to the county recorders who do the actual accounting," she said, "and, accompanying those cards, need to be two people and they need to be of opposing parties."
As of this date, Ballotpedia reported only 15 states still rely on paperless voting systems. Arizona is not among them, opting to use both paper and direct-recording electronic systems with a paper receipt and audit trail.
The registration deadline to vote in the upcoming primary elections is July 30.
