On Tuesday, the Trump administration announced it would provide up to $12 billion in emergency relief to farmers affected by the trade war.

The Arizona Farm Bureau Federation reports Arizona agriculture is a $23.3 billion industry. CEO Philip Bashaw said the products that will probably be most impacted are cotton, dairy and specialty crops.

“While we appreciate this temporary aid and certainly the recognition that agriculture has been severely impacted in these negotiations, this is only temporary aid. Our focus remains on fair trade agreements and access to foreign markets,” said Bashaw.

Bashaw does not know how many farmers will qualify or apply for aid. The program is presumed to roll out in September after Labor Day.
