This week, two Arizona cities, Phoenix and Tucson, broke high temperature records set back in 1943.

These extreme summer temperatures, unsurprisingly, affect different businesses in different ways.

Steve Chucri with the Arizona Restaurant Association said summer slowdowns forced many restaurants to adjust their schedules.

“You might see a reduction of hours in the more rural areas," said Chucri. "This is a very rare instance, you might have some restaurants close for the three months of summer.”

Some other businesses, meanwhile, are thriving.

Ryan Maasen is the owner of Ice King, an ice manufacturing company. The Phoenix area distributor sells about 50 percent more during the summer.

“We call the Fourth of July our Super Bowl," said Maasen. "So that's our big weekend of the year, but once that humidity hits here, it’s just non-stop. We are running our shifts 20 hours a day here at our factory.”

Utility and power companies are also reporting record breaking demand this week.
