Construction for a large industrial development in southwest Phoenix is scheduled to begin soon.

The 22-mile extension of the Loop 202, also called the South Mountain Freeway, will connect the East and West Valley and provide an alternative for traffic along Interstate 10 through downtown Phoenix.

Trammell Crow Company hopes to cash in by building the West 202 Logistics Center. The 38-acre site near 59th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road will feature 36-foot clear heights, ramp and dock high doors for loading and parking space for 160 trailers.

“The Metro Phoenix industrial sector continues to perform well with vacancy rates declining and rental rates increasing," said Cathy Thuringer, principal with TCC’s Phoenix Business Unit, in a media release. "And we are particularly excited about this site in the Southwest submarket given its proximity to the new extension of the Loop 202 freeway and the area’s skilled labor base.”

The 202 extension, Arizona’s largest single highway construction project, is expected to be completed by late 2019.
