Jaime Gonzalez Dominguez was founder and director of Ojinaga Noticias, a website mostly dedicated to community news. A Facebook site for the news organization indicates Dominguez began the site in February. Less than 24 hours after his death the site shut down.

A police spokesman for the northern border state of Chihuahua said Gonzalez Dominguez was having dinner Sunday night at a local taco stand. Gunman drove up to local eatery, walked out of their vehicle and fired at Dominguez 18 times. A woman who was with him was unharmed. The police spokesman said the gunman also took Gonzalez Dominguez's camera. As of Monday police had yet to determine a motive for the murder.

Ojinaga is across from Presido, Texas four hours southeast of El Paso. It's one of the most remote crossings along the southern border, making it ideal for smuggling. The region has been relatively peacefully compared to other border cities like Ciudad Juárez.

However, an army general formerly based in Ojinaga and accused of working for drug traffickers is currently facing charges of human rights violations.

Gonzalez Dominguez is one of dozens of reporters killed in Mexico in the past six years.
