Former Rep. Don Shooter, Ousted After #MeToo, Loses Arizona Primary Race
Former Arizona state Rep. Don Shooter made international headlines as the first state lawmaker ousted after the #MeToo Movement. Tuesday night he lost his primary bid for a state Senate seat.
The state House expelled Shooter in February after investigators concluded he sexually harassed at least seven women, including fellow lawmakers. Shooter denies the harassment and in May announced his intentions to run for Arizona Senate.
He was able to gather over 800 signatures and qualified to run in the primary. He also defeated a lawsuit that claimed he did not live in Yuma, the district he sought to represent.
However, last night he came in third where Republican voters in District 13 backed Sen. Sine Kerr.
Kerr has been serving since January when the former Senator Steve Montenegro stepped down to run for the U.S. House.
