An embattled southeast Valley utility company has given control of its company over to an interim manager after being threatened with jail time.

The Arizona Corporation Commission selected utilities company EPCOR to take over the operations of Johnson Utilities in July.

Johnson provides water and sewer services in Queen Creek and Florence, but the Arizona Corporation Commission stepped in after customers raised concerns about water pressure, quality and sewage overflows.

After Johnson refused to give EPCOR full access to its financial accounts, the commission filed contempt charges against Johnson, and a Pinal County judge threatened the company owners with jail time.

A commission spokesperson confirmed on Thursday that Johnson had finally relented, giving the financial information over to EPCOR.

EPCOR will now resume its duties outlined in interim management agreement with the Arizona Corporation Commission.
