Cars are stopped heading into Terminal 3 and 4 at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Sept. 16, 2018. Terminal 4 was closed due to police activity.

Parts of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport were closed due to police activity Sunday morning.

Phoenix police officers noticed an unattended vehicle shortly after 7 a.m. The car, which was later determined to be a rental, was parked along the curb at Terminal 4 and a bomb squad was called to the scene.

This created a line of stopped cars heading into Terminal 3 and 4.

During a media briefing, Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said Terminal 4 was shut down and that the incident had disrupted a number of flights.

“We encourage people to contact their airlines to check on flights if they have a flight scheduled to find out what the status of that is,” Thompson said. “ All of the airlines are aware of the situation and are working with their passengers to make sure they do get the service they need to.”

Thompson later sent out a statement, saying the vehicle had been cleared and roads were starting to reopen.
