Arizona’s Clean Elections system of public campaign financing has been under fire since voters approved it in 1998. Lawmakers and the U.S. Supreme Court have gutted some of its provisions, but the Citizens Clean Elections Commission remains in place.

Proposition 306 on November’s ballot aims to do two things related to Clean Elections. One provision would prevent publicly-funded candidates from directing money to a political party, while the other would give the Governor’s Regulatory Review Commission the power to oversee Clean Elections rules.
