Tiny Desert Concerts is a series in which we bring local bands and musicians into the KJZZ studios to play a couple songs and talk about the music.

This month we hear from koleżanka — a four-musician band fronted by Kristina Moore.

Her former band, Foreign Language, performed for us a couple years ago. She fondly describes the former band as an “infant” version of what she really wanted to do musically. With koleżanka, the full fruition of her ideas has blossomed.

Moore grew up listening and playing traditional Polish and folk music, the rhythms and patterns are deeply ingrained in how she writes today. If you listen closely you might hear the ghost of that folk music whispering in the chords. But now Moore is expanding beyond what she thought she could do and is more comfortable as a musician.

The Show started off the conversation by discussing the meaning behind the word “koleżanka.”

You can hear more of koleżanka’s music on their Bandcamp page.
