When buying a car, the benefits of added safety features are obvious — but those features can also lead to more costly repairs. According to a AAA study released recently, safety features can double or triple the costs for minor repairs.

High-tech advanced driver assistance systems include front and rear cameras, sensors, blind spot monitoring, emergency automated braking and more.

“So if you look at advanced driver assistance systems there are many variables, such as the vehicle make and model, the type and location of the sensor and  where the work is performed, all of those things can affect the repair cost of these systems,” said, Michelle Donati, spokesperson for AAA Arizona.

Donati also said it is important to ensure a repair shop is qualified to not only repair the equipment but also re-calibrate the technology as well.
