Maricopa County Community College District Chancellor Responds To Faculty Complaints

The chancellor of the Maricopa County Community College District has responded to a formal complaint filed by the Faculty Association in September.

The 271-page response came on the heels of a complaint filed by John Schampel, the president of the Maricopa Community Colleges Faculty Association with the Higher Learning Commission, which requested a response from the district.

The association accused the district of serious accreditation violations.

Schampel says he received Chancellor Maria Harper-Marinick’s response when it went out to the entire district:

"From my initial read I wasn’t clear what this letter was in response to because it was clear to me that the chancellor failed to address the concerns we raised and the subsequently the ones HLC raised," he said.

In her response, the Chancellor Maria Harper-Marinick addressed the legal status of the district and how the Board makes its decisions. She also addressed recent board actions, saying there were compliant with Arizona Statutes.
