A private four year University in California is the latest to partner with Maricopa County Community College district.

The out-of-state transfer agreement means eligible community college students can get guaranteed fall admission at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

LMU Director of Transfer Admission and Enrollment Services Thomas Gutto said this is a great way to help students make a transfer for a bachelor’s degree.

“There’s enough anxiety with just transition alone. If they knew that if they did what they were supposed to there would be a spot there, that has relieved a lot of the anxiety," Gutto said. "The other thing is they just want to know what they’re supposed to do, so the guarantee really clearly lays out ‘these are our expectations.’”

Gutto said he met Rose Rojas, Maricopa's Director for Curriculum and Transfer, and the idea to create the program was sparked.

“This MOU supports Maricopa’s strategic priorities of ensuring student success and providing diverse transfer partnerships and experiences.” Rojas said, in an emailed statement. “The agreement furthers that goal by providing students from the region access to a high-quality, Jesuit university education.”

Gutto said to secure a guarantee, community college students need to be full-time, with at least a 3.0 GPA.

MCCCD has similar deals with other institutions.
