A new report says tribal gaming in Arizona has an annual economic and fiscal impact of several billion dollars.

The total amount is $4.7 billion. It includes direct effects like casino jobs, but the figure also includes secondary or ripple effects. That can include services, products and jobs the gaming industry and its workers support.

Tribal gaming contributed $691 million in tax revenue and revenue share payments to the state, cities and counties. Through the Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact, tribes with casinos contribute 1 to 8 percent of their Class III gross gaming revenues to government entities.

The report, authored by Meister Economic Consulting on behalf of the American Gaming Association (AGA), is based on data from 2016 and includes 25 Arizona gaming facilities.

Nationally, it found tribal gaming in 28 states produced a $32 billion segment of the gaming industry in 2017. The AGA said 45 percent of all gaming revenue in the U.S. comes from the tribal casino industry.
