The former treasurer of two northern Arizona organizations has pled guilty to fraud, conflict of interest charges and theft. More than $100,000 were mishandled.

According to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, Michael Scott Greer failed to notify the Pine Strawberry Water Improvement District that he had financial interest in two vendors doing business with the district.  According to the AG, Greer facilitated the bids and ended up receiving almost $65,900 from the District under the contracts.

Prosecutors say While Greer was treasurer for the Gila County Mounted Posse, he used over $38,700 in posse funds for personal expenses.

During board meetings Greer falsely reported the Posse funds to cover his tracks. He meant to repay the stolen funds, but failed to do so until after he was charged.

These offenses occurred between 2011 and 2012. Sentencing is scheduled for January.
