Over the last week, the nominations for the Golden Globes and Grammys were announced. Some of the nominees were expected, some are eyebrow raising and a few are pleasant surprises.

Starting with the Golden Globes, one film in particular is getting a lot of attention.

The superhero film, "Black Panther" raked in three award nominations, including a best picture nod.

And unlike the Oscars, the Golden Globes give out awards to best musical or comedy. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s “A Star Is Born” remake got a nomination here. But the pop-star fueled film is going up against Emily Blunt’s “Mary Poppins Returns” and “Crazy Rich Asians.”

But, perhaps shockingly, “Bohemian Rhapsody” didn’t make the cut. The critically acclaimed female-led crime thriller “Widows” was also snubbed.

In the television categories, Julia Roberts earned a nomination for best actress for her role in Amazon’s “Homecoming.” The show is also getting a nod for best drama television series along with FX’s “The Americans” and BBC America’s “Killing Eve.”

From the musical or comedy category, Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is a strong contender along with HBO’s “Barry.”

Following the Golden Globes is the music industry Grammy Awards, which air on Feb. 10. Kendrick Lamar and Drake lead the pack among the number of nominations. Lady Gaga’s single “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” also got a nomination.

And while the Oscar nominations won’t come out until Jan. 23, there’s already a controversy swirling.

Comedian and actor Kevin Hart was set to host the awards, but just hours after the announcement, he stepped down after news of past homophobic tweets surfaced. Hart later apologized, after refusing to do so, but he was slammed again for appearing insincere.

It’s still up in the air who will host the Oscars now.
