More than 800 flu cases have been reported this season and 277 of those were just in the last week.

Eugene Livar with the Arizona Department of Health Services says the state’s flu status has moved to regional and the state is seeing an increase in influenza-like illnesses (ILI).

“We’re starting to see more cases and more wide spread numbers," Livar said. "So you’ll see the increase in ILI in two regions and elevated numbers of laboratory confirmed cases throughout those regions. So basically, when you see regional, you’re getting that spread and you’re getting out of the sporadic and local.”

Livar said there are less cases this year compared to 2017, but the numbers are still higher than the five-season average.
