Young dancers perform at a Christmas celebration in Hermosillo on Dec. 18, 2018.

The founder and board member of the Arizona-based ZOE Foundation listened to a youth orchestra play Christmas songs at a holiday party for kids at a park in Hermosillo, Sonora.

The organization came to Hermosillo to deliver hundreds of needy children and families.

“We delivered blankets and food bags and toys, and it’s just been a blessing, said Catherine Miranda, a ZOE Foundation board member and Arizona state senator for District 27 in Phoenix.

She said the organization also signed an agreement with the city of Hermosillo to continue working together to help vulnerable communities.

“It is about reaching to the other side, and in this case we’re reaching to the other side of the border," Miranda said.

ZOE Foundation founder Felix Garcia was born and raised in Hermosillo. He says this is the 10th year his nonprofit has delivered Christmas gifts to his hometown.
