After success with a class action suit against Volkswagen for misleading consumers that its vehicles emitted cleaner emissions, Arizona's attorney general is going after Mercedes Benz and its parent company.

In the new lawsuit filed this week at Maricopa County's Superior Court, attorney for the state Rob Carey is seeking reimbursement for potentially up to $10,000 Arizonans who purchased or leased specific Mercedes vehicles between 2007 and 2016.

"We believe consumers should get paid back for fraudulent marketing and sales of the dirty cars," said Carey, and "we believe the state should recover civil penalties for the fraudulent conduct that inflicted harm upon all Arizonans."

Carey claims the autos marketed with more efficient BlueTec diesel engines, actually produce dirtier emissions, including oxides of nitrogen, which can cause serious respiratory problems as the compound reacts to sunlight.
