EL PASO, Texas -- A Mexican poet leading an international peace movement will stop in El Paso on Tuesday. The group will address gun trafficking.

Poet Javier Sicilia will go before the El Paso City Council on Wednesday to propose stricter regulation of gun sales. He's asking gun dealers to sign a voluntary 10-step plan that aims to prevent criminals from obtaining weapons.

Mexican drug cartels get some of their guns by paying straw purchasers in the United States to smuggle them south.

In the past six years, 50,000 people have died in Mexico due to drug-related violence. Sicilia's son was one of them. His U.S tour will end next month in Washington D.C.
