Sonoran Carne Asada Featured In Upcoming Show On Netflix
From street corner taquerías to well-known restaurants, some of Sonora’s best carne asada tacos are getting their moment in the limelight as part of a new Netflix show called “The Taco Chronicles.”
“It’s something that identifies us, that we’re proud of, and that can also put us on the map as a place for anyone to come visit,” said Luis Alberto Gonzalez, director of Sonoran tourism promotion.
Carne asada is one of the most important parts of Sonoran culture, he said, and it brings the state great pride to represent carne asada tacos on the show, which travels Mexico featuring the country’s most iconic tacos.
“I think it’s a matter of great pride that our gastronomy is recognized not only on the national level, but internationally,” he said.
He said Sonora was chosen to be part of “The Taco Chronicles” because of the great flavor and variety of Sonoran carne asada, and follows the process, from the ranches where meat is raised to the restaurants where it’s served.
The show was filmed in the capital Hermosillo, Sonora, and surrounding cities and towns in November and December 2018, Gonzalez said, and is set to air on Netflix USA in Spanish sometime in the first half of 2019.
Sonoran food is already a big draw for tourists, he said, and he hopes this show will help attract new visitors, too.
“We know that food is one of the things that draws people to visit new place, and these tacos are going to be that attraction,” he said. “We’re confident that carne asada will continue to be recognized as one of the most important attributes of Sonora.”
The show “The Taco Chronicles” is being produced by Canana Films and Gloria Content with Mexican actor and director Diego Luna and Los Angeles-based producer Pablo Cruz, according to a press release from the Sonoran tourism director.
Gonzalez added that another show for Netflix Mexico is set to be filmed in the beach town of San Carlos starting this February.
“It’s very exciting,” he said.
